The
Story
The
Cottage
Before there was Kangaroo Paw Cottage there was The Old Time Cottage. Before it was the current owners' dream it was somebody else's. There was a beautiful, lush garden and period correct décor. The name described this previously loved B&B perfectly. It was old timey and littered with antiques hard to come by.
With the previous owners' passing, the Old Time Cottage became a rental property. Much of the garden died away and there was a layer of dust that collected in the nooks and crannies. The cottage was still beautiful and unique but it needed to be loved again.

Fast forward to winter 2021 and when searching for a place to turn into a B&B, the couple who would eventually become its new owners fell in love with the property. It needed a few coats of paint, some renovations and a garden reconstruction, but, the potential was there.

Kangaroo Paw Cottage has had a facelift and has had love poured back into it. With it's white walls and colourful décor, it sits perfectly in an area that is a few streets back from the main street of Longreach. The pubs, shops and cafes are a 5-10 minute walk away but the area in which KPC sits is quieter and feels more secluded.
The cottage sleeps up to 6 people and consists of two queen beds and two single beds. It comes equipped with a kitchen and dining room as well as a living room with a smart TV that has Netflix. The floorplan is open so all three of these areas are in one big space which allows guests to be around one another even if they are doing different things. You can be sitting on the couch wrapped in a blanket and enjoying your favourite series while your partner cooks dinner (or vice versa).
However, if being alone is what you crave, there are plenty of places around the property where you can sit and enjoy the solitude. Kangaroo Paw Cottage boasts a lovely backyard with gardens, a lawn and sitting areas. There is also an outdoor dining area nestled underneath a large tree. The favourite spot of many, though, is the Landcruiser deck built on a rusted out $200 ute found on a property. This is the best spot to view an Outback sunset at the end of your day.
